Forehand High Serve Summary
In this chapter on the Forehand High Serve, students will learn about an essential skill for playing badminton. The serve is important because it allows players to initiate the game effectively and put pressure on their opponents. The Forehand High Serve sends the shuttlecock high into the air, making it challenging for the receiving player to return it easily. Understanding the correct technique is critical for executing this serve successfully. To perform the Forehand High Serve, start with the basic grip: use a forehand grip, which is similar to how you would hold a tennis racket. As you prepare for the serve, position yourself with your non-racket foot forward. This means standing with the foot opposite to the hand you use to hold the racket. This stance gives you better balance and leverage. Next, you should swing the racket smoothly in an upward motion while keeping control. A crucial part of this process is how you hold the shuttlecock. You need to hold it by the feathers, as demonstrated in the illustrations provided. This helps in striking the shuttlecock accurately. During practice sessions, it is essential to discuss how high to hit the shuttlecock. Ideally, the shuttle should go up and over the opponent's racket, but not so high that it becomes hard to predict its landing. In a lead-up activity, students will practice this serve by setting up a net. Two players will stand on opposite sides of the court, each holding a racket above their heads. This position mimics the receiving stance often seen in actual games. Mark a line just before the back line on the opposite court. Each player will have five chances to serve, aiming to drop the shuttlecock near the back of the opponent’s side. The objective is to ensure that the shuttlecock travels high above the opponent's racket, making it more difficult for them to return it. An important point to remember while performing the Forehand High Serve is to hit the shuttlecock below waist level. This technique helps to launch it high into the air, ensuring it travels deep into the opponent’s court. It is also essential to follow through with your swing naturally. This not only helps maintain balance but also improves the accuracy of your shot. Through consistent practice and understanding of these techniques, students will develop the skills needed for a successful Forehand High Serve. This chapter will prepare you well for practical sessions and enhance your overall game strategy in badminton.
