In this chapter, we explore the fundamental skills of Kho-Kho, particularly covering and chasing. These skills help players understand offensive strategies and improve their overall performance. We start with a warm-up that includes leaping and skipping jumps, as well as hip and pelvic muscle stretches, which prepare the body for physical activity and reduce the risk of injury. Next, we dive into the skill of covering. This is where players learn to coordinate their movements as they chase the defender. Effective covering is about understanding the defender's actions and making quick decisions to pursue them. Players practice moving in straight lines and making left or right turns to close in on the defender. The individual pursuit drill is a great way to enhance these skills. In this one-on-one practice, covering chasers try to catch a single runner, which builds speed and timing and helps players predict the runner's movements better. This is crucial in the game of Kho-Kho, where quick reflexes and anticipation can make all the difference. In Circle Time, we emphasize the concept of anticipation. Players learn to visually strategize how to cover and chase, recognizing the right moments to attack. This understanding fosters better teamwork and communication during play. To put these skills into action, we introduce the Covering Chase Relay. This fun activity involves splitting players into two teams. Team A starts in a sitting position on the center line. The first player receives a kho, gets up, and must run to a cone placed at a 45-degree angle and then return to pass the kho to the next player. Team B does the same, and the team that finishes first is declared the winner. This relay not only reinforces the covering skill but also encourages teamwork and competition. Lastly, we highlight an important tip: when receiving kho, players should ensure both hands are positioned outside the center line for effective gameplay. Overall, mastering these skills in this chapter will enhance players' abilities in Kho-Kho and promote physical fitness and teamwork.
