Kick Summary
In this chapter, we focus on the kick skill, a crucial offensive move in Kabaddi. The primary goal of the kick is to touch a defender with your leg and return safely to your home half after a raid. This technique requires both strategy and practice to ensure success in the game. We start with the approach, which varies depending on the target and the distance you need to cover. A good approach sets the stage for a successful kick. Next is the stance, where you should either stand diagonally or parallel. It's important to maintain stability on your rear leg while positioning your shoulder line towards the midline. Your upper body should be in a crouched position, with your arms flexed and relaxed to help you maintain balance. Once you are in position, it’s time for execution. When performing the kick, remember to keep your knee joint straight. Always consider the distance and position of the target. The rear leg should be in a pivot position to maximize the effectiveness of your kick. After the kick, it’s crucial to follow through properly. Bring your kicking leg forward immediately to avoid being caught by defenders. Additionally, bend your body towards the midline to evade any opponents and avoid chains. Variations of the kick can also enhance performance. These include the back kick, side kick, and roll or curve kick. Each variation serves a unique purpose and can help confuse defenders. To practice this technique, we suggest an engaging team activity. Position two teams on opposite sides of the court, with their arms extended at the corners behind the bonus line. At the beginning of the activity, the first player from each team takes a turn to run to the opposite court, kick the extended arm, and return in the shortest possible time. The team that completes this task first wins, promoting teamwork and skill development. Lastly, we will discuss in a group setting how raiders can add these variations to their kicking techniques and improve their performance in the game. Understanding and mastering the kick will not only make you a better player but also enhance your team's strategy during actual matches. By the end of this chapter, you should feel more confident in your ability to execute successful kicks on the Kabaddi court.
