Step Trapping Summary
In this chapter, we learn all about the skill of step trapping in football. Trapping is important because it helps players control and stop the ball effectively, allowing them to set up their next move. To trap the ball, players need to be aware of its direction and speed. They must position their bodies behind the line of the incoming ball and stay balanced. When the ball rolls towards them, placing their foot directly on it helps in stopping it. If the ball bounces low, they should extend their foot to meet it and quickly pull back before contact to ensure a solid trap. Once they trap the ball, they should be ready to move it away from defenders or into space. To practice this skill, players can create small practice boxes that measure thirty inches by thirty inches. One player stands at the back of the box while another rolls the ball towards it from about five meters away. The goal is to trap the ball inside the box, and each successful trap earns a player one point. Setting a personal goal for trapping is encouraged, such as aiming to successfully trap the ball five out of six times. Each player gets three chances to roll the ball and three for low bounces. The player with the highest score at the end wins the practice session. During Circle Time, players can think about their goals and share how they felt about achieving or not achieving them. This helps them reflect on their experiences and learn from them. Understanding the skill of trapping and its importance in football prepares students for effective gameplay, helps build their coordination, and promotes teamwork and communication on the field. Overall, mastering this skill significantly enhances a player's confidence and performance during matches.
