This technique is vital for defenders as it prevents raiders from escaping to their half of the court after a raid, thus helping the defending team score points. To effectively use the wrist-hold, all players must follow certain steps and understand its importance in gameplay. The chapter begins by introducing the two main types of wrist-hold: holding the wrist from above and holding it from below. Understanding these variants is crucial as they offer different strategies depending on the situation on the court. Next, the chapter emphasizes the approach needed before executing the wrist-hold. It’s important for defenders to observe the raider’s movements carefully. The defender should maintain a relaxed posture and not hold the chain, allowing for a better grip. To hold the wrist effectively, the palm should be shaped like a cup, with the thumb separated from the fingers, which should be close together. Leaning slightly forward helps in establishing a firm grip on the raider’s wrist when the opportunity arises. Warming up is an essential part of physical activity, and this chapter includes several warm-up exercises that prepare the body for the demands of the game. Activities such as wrist rotation, palm stretching, shoulder rotation, and jumping jacks are suggested. For cooling down after practice, wrist-hold palm stretches and cross-body shoulder stretches are recommended to prevent injuries and maintain flexibility.
