CBSE Class 10 Private Candidate Forms for 2026 Exams Now Open

A guide to the application process, eligibility, fees, and key dates for private candidates appearing in the CBSE Class X exams

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially announced the opening of the application window for private candidates taking the Class X board examinations in 2026. This is a crucial update for students who are repeating the exam, have compartment subjects, or wish to improve their performance. The forms and fees must be submitted online, with the application window starting on September 9, 2025.

Who Can Apply as a Private Candidate?

The CBSE private candidate scheme for the 2026 Class 10 exams is open to several categories of students:

  • Essential Repeat Candidates: Students from the 2024-25 session who were declared "Essential Repeat" in their 2025 results.

  • Compartment Candidates: Students who were placed in the "Compartment" category in the 2025 main and supplementary exams and need a second chance.

  • Fail/Essential Repeat Candidates (Previous Years): Students who were declared Fail or Essential Repeat in the years 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, or 2025.

  • Improvement of Performance Candidates: Students who passed the 2025 exam and want to improve their marks in one or more subjects.

Important Dates and Fee Structure

The online application process begins on September 9, 2025. It's crucial for all applicants to adhere to the deadlines, as no forms will be accepted after the last date under any circumstances.

  • Normal Fee Submission: September 9, 2025, to September 30, 2025, until 11:59 p.m..

  • Late Fee Submission: October 3, 2025, to October 11, 2025, until 11:59 p.m..

The examination fees are as follows:

  • Normal Fee: ₹320 per subject per candidate.

  • Late Fee: An additional ₹2,000 per candidate, on top of the normal fee.

All payments must be made online via Net Banking, Debit Card, or Credit Card. Offline payments, such as DD, postal orders, or cheques, will not be accepted.

Key Instructions for Filling the Online Form

Candidates must apply through the

"व्यक्तिगत परीक्षार्थी" (Private Candidate) link on the official CBSE website, cbse.gov.in.

Here are some critical points to remember:

  • Single Application: You can submit only one application form. Choose your category and details carefully.

  • Auto-generated Details: For students who appeared in the 2025 exams, their personal details will be auto-generated in the online system.

  • Previous Year Students: Candidates from 2024 or earlier must accurately enter their details, such as Roll Number and Year of Passing. Incorrect information will lead to the rejection of the form.

  • Choosing Subjects: Applicants can only select subjects that are auto-generated in the system.

  • Examination Centre: The exam city, once selected, cannot be changed. Be sure to choose your preferred city carefully while filling out the form.

  • Photo and Signature: You need to upload a scanned photo and signature as a JPG file, with a size not exceeding 40 KB.
