Toward fulfilling NEP 2020, NCERT has formed a high level expert committee to review the pedagogy and content of selected school textbooks. This is based on the criticism NCERT has received with respect to the teaching and learning materials. Suggested revisions will be made based on an evidence based evaluation performed by the expert panel and will be in sync with the vision of NEP 2020.
In a noteworthy development, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has, in line with the NEP 2020 provisions, set up a high-level expert committee to review the content of some textbooks. This has been necessitated by the feedback received concerning teaching, learning, and curricular materials.
Like all educational institutions, NCERT is regularly updating its teaching-learning materials, textbooks, and other resources, based on the feedback given by teachers, parents, and students. The current review has been triggered by some feedback received on certain textbooks, and that prompted the Council to take action. It is the norm of NCERT that all textbooksaremade by a committee consisting of senior domain experts from well-known institutions and teachers, and is headed by the Head of the Curriculum Department.
The newly formed panel will:
Conduct a thorough analysis of feedback datasets.
Conduct a systematic content and teaching pedagogy review aligned to the latest benchmarks.
Propose actionable enhancements to aid the implementation of NEP 2020.
The committee will propose its recommendations in the near term, in anticipation that this will enable the proposed changes to be enacted without delay.
For schools under CBSE and students utilizing NCERT textbooks, this review guarantees:
Relevance: Learning materials captured are in tune with contemporary standards.
Quality: The materials are checked for their quality and usefulness thoroughly.
Transparency: Improvements made are based on active stakeholder inputs.
NCERT’s responsive strategies demonstrate their dedication toward realising the goals set in NEP 2020, which aims for a more flexible, encompassing, and high-caliber education system. Parents and learners will look forward to enhanced textbooks tailored to modern learning standards.
